As much as I don't really want to feed in to this subject, as an observer, as a ridiculously tolerant observer, and as an atheist observer, most of the issues you're pointing at stem from religion. Just look at the tags you've assigned--Every one of them can be attributed to various religious preachings (most of which are based on misinterpretations).

Blaming social media for flaming the fires of intolerance is somewhat like blaming the invention of the printing press for spreading ignorance of many a written word (such as tabloids, propaganda. Etc). Social media is a tool -used- to spread it with a great deal more ease than ever before, but it's people themselves who do the deed.

Yes, I may seem like I'm opportunistically bashing religion but when it's one of the most dominant sources of the intolerance you mentioned it's pretty hard not to. Sorry about that.

Totally agree. I was never a huge Whitney fan, namely because they played her SO MUCH that I just got burned out. Never was anything Whitney, per se, did. Her voice was amazing and I had always hoped she would get it together, that she would rise out of the ashes. It is tragic and a sick waste of talent and beauty. God bless her and keep her :C.

Kat, i have always found it easier to talk with people over IRC than twitter or Facebook. Mainly from having a group discussion over random sweets. i also don't like the shoot message up to 140 characters out and wait for reply, and repeat. With things Llike inc and im clientsyou can see the response and give a reply quickly. to me its more like a real conversation than like twitter. Sorry for and double letters like in llike, but doing this on a phone is more frustrating than on the pc, and my text entry won't allow ne to put cursor where i need for fixing typos.

Very good points Kat! I agree that most of the people I follow are not inclined to carry a conversation. Some for good reason as they are simply flooded with @replys and can not respond to ever one.

I do enjoy small projects though where the host is engaged with their viewers or the community following said show is willing to engage in conversation. Some of the more.

Well said, Kat. I think social media conversations could be best described as "when it's good for me." I don't think many people are bothering to respond to posts by others on these various platforms. It's at a point where the "popular" people are receiving all the attention while the conversationalist is being engaged to the degree that they would like. Wouldn't it be nice if the tables were turned for a little. What if the responses that celebrities and internet personalities receive on everything they say from something valuable to "just flushed my toilet" was given to the average person. I think there would be a lot more "REAL" conversations happening. Not to say there aren't celebrities and internet personalities engaging as best they can because there are. However, there's not enough. So I think real conversations in social media is not what I'd like it to be personally. I like engaging with as many people as I can, but it's interesting how those you feel you had a connection with is short lived. It all stems back to the "when it's good for me" theory I have.

I have to whole heartedly agree with both of you on this however I will not give up on email as I don't get much cos no one loves me *sniff sniff*

Seriously though take for example G+ I am seeing the same S**t from the same people I.e. I liked a YouTube I watched a YouTube I wiped a YouTube'ers backside cos they couldn't reach, in all honesty how is that being social just spamming someone's timeline without providing any useful information to your followers and viewers. Personally I prefer to read good content or at least given the choice on whether I wish to read it or not at least give me that choice without looking on twitter, facebook etc etc looking at the same crap.

I could go on and on but I think Gordon has summed it very well and I had to leave my 2 cents worth.
