For the Weary, Worried, and Waiting
Lately, I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night, feeling distraught about the future.
Even though I know—deep down—I’ll look back on this season and wonder why I spent so many hours worrying, crying, and flowcharting every worst-case scenario… I’m still human.
I can already hear my future self whispering, “Why did I waste so much emotional bandwidth on something God was working hard to make right?”
But in the middle of the night, that clarity feels so far away.
While I waste precious energy spiraling through everything that could go wrong, my God—your God—is seated on his throne. His watchful, caring eye has not blinked once on our hardships. He’s been right beside us all along, shouldering our burdens, attentive to every single need.
While we worry, he’s working.
As we grieve, he’s restoring.
In the middle of our doubts, he’s confidently securing our hopeful future.
Here are some of the lessons God is gently, patiently teaching me through the Gardens Bible study. I’m praying they encourage you, too.
1. This is not the end.
God is not finished. He is still bringing your story to completion.
And until he’s done, we need you here.
I know what it’s like to wait on a twenty-year-old dream to come to fruition. Twenty years. I was so tired. So weary from waiting. I’d prayed all the right prayers. I’d sought all the godly wisdom. And still, I waited.
But I also know this: not one of the aches in my heart has been wasted.
In a way only God can do, he’s kept me close to him and reminded me over and over again, “This is not the end.”
Trusting God is a spiritual battle, not a spiritual vacation––so this wont be easy to do.
If you’re staring down impossible circumstances...
If your inner critic is screaming through a megaphone, “There’s no way out!”...
Fix your eyes on Jesus. He will lead you through.
Dead ends are just the beginning for God.
2. God is going to make all things new.
Honestly? I’d settle for better.
But that’s not God’s standard.
He doesn’t just make things better—he has the power to make things new. Different. Unexpected. Beautiful.
I don’t know about you, but “new” has almost lost its meaning for me. Every commercial, every product, every promise comes with a shiny new! sticker slapped on top.
But God’s not trying to sell us something.
He wants to give us something: a new life.
If you’re desperate for something better—aching for something good to happen—take heart. God is the only one in your life who can create something from nothing.
When God re-creates, he doesn’t just hand us an improved version of what was. He offers himself—his presence, his promise—as a guarantee that this is not as good as it gets.
And the best news?
He’s coming back to make all things new.
Until then?
He’s already started the work.
This reflection is drawn from the final lesson in the Gardens Bible study, where we explore gardnes in Scripture—from Eden to the New Creation.
If your soul is weary from waiting, this is your invitation to hope again.
